Anke Birnie's sculptures combine the solidity of bronze with the human element of movement. Anke gained an MA at Artibus College in Utrecht (Holland) where she followed a specialised course in sculpting techniques.
Her figures are positioned on low walls or in her more recent work they are hanging. This relationship between the sculpture and its surroundings is an important element in Anke's work. It is this relationship as well as the characteristic long limbs and swirling clothes of her figures that invoke an impression of natural movement.
